Kirk Cousins' Blunt Confession After OT Win in Falcons-Buccaneers

Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins had himself a night after leading the Atlanta Falcons to a nail-biting overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 36-30, in Week 5 on Thursday.

He led the Falcons' frantic drive with just a little over a minute left in regulation, which ended with kicker Younghoe Koo sending the game into an extra period with a 52-yard field goal.

Cousins then connected with wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge in overtime for the game-winning touchdown, completing an improbable come-from-behind victory to improve to 3-2.

The 36-year-old signal-caller passed for career-highs of 509 yards and four touchdowns. He finished 42-of-58.

Cousins had a five-word summary about the game, as quoted by a report from the Associated Press.

“What a night,” said Cousins. “I'm exhausted.”

The four-time Pro Bowler joined the Falcons in the offseason via a four-year, $180 million contract, including a guaranteed $100 million. He, however, had a mediocre start as they lost two of their first three games.

The huge win over the Buccaneers is a step in the right direction, according to Cousins.

“I'm proud of the grit,” said the former fourth-round pick. “In this league, that’s what it takes. We were gritty tonight.”

    Tampa Bay fell to 3-2.

Cousins also touted their balanced attack. Four players had at least six receptions each, led by the 12 of wide receiver Drake London.

“I spread it around and the players made plays,” he said. “I'm grateful for the progress we've made. We're getting better and better each week."

The Falcons will look to grab their third straight win when they face the Carolina Panthers on October 13.
