Southlake (Texas) Carroll RB, USC commit Riley Wormley out for season with knee injury

One of the top players in Texas high school football will be out for the rest of the season, striking a huge blow to No. 5-ranked Southlake Carroll and its pursuit of a state title.

Four-star running back and USC commit Riley Wormley left last week’s game with a knee injury, and according to the Dallas Morning News , he will be out for the rest of the year because of it.

Wormley has been one of the top rushers in the Lone Star State through the first half of the regular season, running for 583 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 9.9 yards per carry.

That followed up a junior campaign where he totaled more than 900 rushing yards (10.6 YPC) and 19 touchdowns, while also catching 9 balls for 123 yards out of the backfield.

Wormley has been committed to the Trojans since March, when he chose them over offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon and more than a dozen other programs.

The 5-foot-9.5, 170-pounder is the No. 422 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 33 running back and the No. 61 recruit in the state of Texas.

With him injured, the Dragons will rely heavily on junior quarterback Angelo Renda and junior running back Davis Penn . Through five games, Renda has completed better than 73 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,215 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Penn will see a much bigger role as the lead back now, having totaled 45 carries for 298 yards (6.6 YPC) and and five TDs through five games.

Carroll faces off against Keller on Friday night, and isn’t projected to play another top-25 state ranked team the rest of the regular season. The Dragons currently rank No. 5 in the updated Texas high school football rankings and sit at 5-0 midway through the season.
