An investigation is continuing into a parking lot shooting that killed a man west of Greenville on Thursday, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reported.

It appears the incident stemmed from a dispute, the sheriff’s office said, and all parties involved were located. No arrests had been announced as of Friday morning.

It occurred at 3:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the Speedway convenience store, 3579 N.C. 43 North, near the Ironwood and Rock Springs developments.

The victim was transported to ECU Health Medical Center where he later died. A sheriff’s office incident report released Friday listed the incident as a homicide.

The report identified the victim as Taeshawn Nasir Gunter, 20. An ECU Health spokeswoman said Friday the hospital had no information about Gunter.

The sheriff’s office said the incident was isolated and there is no known danger to the public at this time. Major crimes and forensic unit detectives are investigating.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 830-4141 or Pitt-Greenville Crime-Stoppers at 758-7777. They can also report the information through www.crimestoppers.org or on the P3Tips app.
