Steelers vs. Cowboys: Can Home Cooking Recharge Pittsburgh?

    By Wil Riggs,

The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football this week. Following a three-point loss to the Indianapolis Colts, can Pittsburgh’s defense bounce back?

Let’s face it, last week’s game was full of miscues and errors that turned into costly mistakes in the Steelers' loss to the Colts. From top to bottom, it was an absolute calamity of errors.

From coach Mike Tomlin's decision to go for a 4th and 1 in the first quarter on his own side of the field, to quarterback Justin Fields’ fumble, and onto the fumble by receiver George Pickens at the Colts' five-yard line, nothing bounced Pittsburgh's way. Six penalties, two turnovers and two turnovers on downs sealed their fate.

But after spending three of the first four weeks on the road, the Steelers are back at Acrisure Stadium hoping that some good home-cooking will renew their football souls.

Fields & Co. on offense, aside from the two turnovers, actually played very well. They were down 17-3 at halftime and came scoring back with three touchdowns in the second half. Fields connected on 22 of 34 passes for 312 yards and a touchdown. He also added 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Against the Cowboys' porous run defense, running back Najee Harris and Fields should have plenty of designed run plays to exploit Dallas’ injury-plagued defense.

Dallas will be without defensive end Demarcus Ware and All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons in this game, so Fields should have plenty of time in the pocket. The Cowboys’ run defense has struggled all year and will need to figure out how to stop the Steelers' run game.

Dallas’ offensive tackles, Terrence Steele on the right and rookie Tyler Guyton on the left will have their hands full with the likes of T.J. Watt. If the offensive line can’t stop Watt & Co., It’s going to be a long day for quarterback Dak Prescott.

The game kicks off on Sunday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. ET on NBC.
