College Football Week 6 Best Bets: Texas A&M, Alabama, and Florida State Headline The List

    By William Luke Hendrick,

After an incredible week five of college football, Miami avoided the upset against Virginia Tech, Rutgers hung on against Washington, and significant upsets with Arizona beating No. 10 Utah and Kentucky defeating No. 6 Ole Miss. Alabama and Georgia also played in what was an early contender for the game of the year.

Week six has the potential to be just as intriguing. Michigan State travels to Eugene to face No. 6 Oregon on a Friday night matchup. Auburn heads to No. 5 Georgia for the Deep South Oldest Rivalry and a repeat of last year's national championship game, with No. 10 Michigan traveling to face Washington. There are also many ranked teams on the road, with No. 4 Tennessee at Arkansas, No. 8 Miami at California, No. 9 Missouri at No. 25 Texas A&M,  No. 11 USC at Minnesota, No. 12 Ole Miss at South Carolina, No. 15 Clemson at Florida State and No. 23 Indiana at Northwestern.

Here are my week six best bets for college football. Odds are via FanDuel.

Best Bets For College Football Week Six

    Season Record: 7-8 (46%)

Michigan State +23.5 at No. 6 Oregon

The Michigan State Spartans are in year one of a rebuilding effort under head coach Jonathan Smith, who spent the last five seasons at Oregon State. The first season has been a mixed bag, with the Spartans starting 3-0 and dropping the next two against Boston College and Ohio State. However, the Ducks haven't been as impressive as people hoped, and with a date with the Buckeyes ahead next week as a look-ahead spot, I like the Spartans to cover here.

Prediction: Oregon 27, Michigan State 14

    No. 9 Missouri at No. 25 Texas A&M -2.5

Don't let the No. 9 ranking and the undefeated record fool you. It hasn't come without some significant bumps in the road, overcoming a 14-3 deficit to Boston College and narrowly escaping against Vanderbilt in double overtime two weekends ago. The talent is there, but until I see Missouri play a complete game, I can't pick them against a solid Texas A&M squad in a hostile environment.

    Prediction: Texas A&M 24, Missouri 20

No. 12 Ole Miss at South Carolina +9.5

Ole Miss started the season red hot, beating lesser opponents, but it was halted in its tracks against Kentucky, showing flaws in the Rebels. Now they have to turn around and go on the road to a tough atmosphere against a South Carolina team that gave LSU all they wanted. With quarterback LaNorris Sellers and star running back Raheim "Rocket" Sanders both set to return this week, the Gamecocks get a shot in the arm offensively. Ole Miss gets a much-needed win but doesn't cover the spread.

Prediction: Ole Miss 24, South Carolina 20

No. 1 Alabama -22.5 at Vanderbilt

More times than not, I would view this as a "letdown" spot for the Crimson Tide, who is coming off a massive win against Georgia and now heads to play Vanderbilt. Instead, I think this Alabama team will be focused, even after the big-time win, and handle business against an improved Vanderbilt team.

    Prediction: Alabama 45, Vanderbilt 20

No. 15 Clemson at Florida State +7.5 (1st Half)

To say the Seminoles' season has been disappointing is an understatement. The players seem to be going through the motions and not giving their all. It looks like this team has given up. Additionally, starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei (broken fingers) is expected to miss "the next few weeks." With the injury, the Seminoles are moving forward with Brock Glenn. With all that being said, I don't think the Seminoles can stick around for the whole game, but they can keep things interesting in the first half.

Prediction: Clemson 14 Florida State 10 (First Half)

No. 10 Michigan at Washington (-120 ML)

In a rematch of last season's national championship game, the Huskies welcome in the Wolverines for a conference showdown. The defending champions come into this matchup with a 4-1 record. The lone loss came from a beatdown courtesy of Texas, and narrowly escaped games against Minnesota and Fresno State. The home team has seen two losses to rival Washington State and Rutgers, where the offense struggled to convert in the red zone. For the Huskies, the defensive game plan shouldn't be complicated. Stop the run, and you stop the Michigan offense. Alex Orji has been a non-factor as a passer, throwing for only 133 yards and three touchdowns to one interception, and the Michigan defense can only stand firm for so long. This will be a close game, so I'm avoiding the spread and taking the Huskies on the money line at - 120.
