Opinion: Luke Bryan Weighs In On Beyonce’s Country Music Association Awards Snub

Luke Bryan is putting his two cents in on the situation regarding Beyoncé‘s lack of Country Music Award nominations for her album “Cowboy Carter”.

Recently, Bryan sat down with Andy Cohen on the Andy Cohen Live show, in which Cohen asked Luke about his opinion on Beyoncé’s snub from the CMA Awards nominees list.

While Luke is ‘all for everyone coming in and making albums,’ he said it does not necessarily mean they will automatically be nominated, as sometimes ‘lots of good music goes overlooked.’

He adds that just because Beyonce made an album… just ’cause he makes one, he doesn’t get any nominations.

As someone who was awarded two entertainer of the year CMA awards, along with multiple nominations, Luke theorized as to why the CMA voting body might’ve passed on Beyonce.

According to Luke, everyone liked the fact that Beyoncé created a country album. Nobody is mad at that. However, where things get a bit tricky — if you are going to create country albums, you have to come into their world and be a little country. You have to enter an award show and give some high-five’s and have a little fun and get into the family, as well. Country music is all about family, he adds.

Before releasing her Cowboy Carter album, Beyoncé said on Instagram that her album was created out of an experience she had years before where she didn’t feel welcomed in the genre of country music.

In 2016, she was faced with backlash for the performance of her country-tinged tune “Daddy Lessons,” at the 50th annual Country Music Association Awards. While Beyonce did receive some applause, other people in the country music world criticized her, with the performance being removed from the CMA site.

Beyonce continued to say that because of that experience, she dived deeper into country music’s history and studied its rich musical archive. She added that it felt good to see how music was able to unite so many folks.

She concluded by saying the criticisms she faced when she originally entered the country music genre forced her to move past the limitations placed on her. This act is a result of her challenging herself, and taking time to blend genres together to make this album.
