The college football transfer portal is in the spotlight again, just five weeks into the 2024 season. Players have entered the portal already, with UNLV QB Matthew Sluka making headlines for entering despite leading the Rebels to an undefeated record.

Moreover, NIL packages and promises are a big reason for players to transfer elsewhere in an attempt to collect some form of compensation.

Lately, there have been calls for college football to add more firm rules and regulations, with Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy even calling for the addition of a commissioner.

Former Texas A&M and Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said the same thing during a recent rant about how programs tamper with players.

"I love all college sports, but college football man, we need a commissioner,” Fisher stated on SiriusXM's "Off Campus" show . “We need revenue sharing. We need a salary cap, for all schools. And the other part of this ... the tampering that other schools do with players, is utterly ridiculous."

Fisher continued talking about the tampering aspect of the game.

“I mean, the big schools are going and getting players constantly from other schools, and it’s being done illegally," Fisher stated. "Those guys are developing players, and all of a sudden their guys, you know, that team shouldn’t have an advantage, financially, to be able to take care of a guy that another school doesn’t, and it’s wrong.”

Texas A&M was involved in some NIL rumors during the famed "Sliced Bread" controversy, something that Fisher labeled as "irresponsible."

So, the former Aggies coach sure knows about the NIL world and the transfer portal and how it is affecting the game of college football.

The need for rules, and perhaps a salary cap, has been a recurring theme.
