Wilson Medical Center reaccredited with the Joint Commission

Wilson Medical Center received notification this week that it has successfully completed the Joint Commission’s triennial survey and received accreditation for another three years.

The Joint Commission is a global driver of quality improvement and patient safety in health care, officials said. Its mission is “to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.”

All hospitals with the Joint Commission accreditation must undergo an intense and extensive survey process every three years to ensure that their operations align with the Joint Commission standards, according to Lindy White, Wilson Medical Center’s interim CEO. Surveys are designed to assesses the current state of a facility’s care and operations, providing a holistic view of how a hospital functions, she said.

At Wilson Medical Center, the Joint Commission surveyors spent several days on site at the hospital in August examining all aspects of its operations — across departments and service lines, White said. This involved exploring in real-time care environments as well as policies and procedures around diverse matters such as infection control, medication management and the provision of care, she added.

“We are incredibly proud of our team,” White said. “This successful survey is testament to their hard work and dedication and reflective of their commitment to continuous improvement and to providing the highest quality care to Wilson and surrounding communities.”
