They make the tough grabs over the middle.

They haul it in down the sideline.

They make the big plays that end up in the end zone.

    They’re the hands.

“They” are the receivers — and the high school football teams at Lake Oswego, Lakeridge, West Linn and Wilsonville have some absolute studs at that position.

Here’s a player-by-player look at the top receivers at those four schools, along with their season statistics and what their head coaches had to say about them.

Editor’s Note: The stats in this story reflect results through Sept. 27, 2024.

    Lake Oswego

The Lakers are led in 2024 by senior Liam Davis (6-foot-2, 185 pounds), a converted quarterback who now leads Lake Oswego receivers in 2024.

Through four games — the Lakers are 4-0 with wins over South Medford, Sunset, Silverton and Newberg — Davis has made five catches for 146 yards (a 29.2 yards per catch average) with two touchdowns.

Here’s what Lake Oswego coach Steve Coury had to say about Davis:

“We moved Liam Davis from quarterback to receiver this year,” Coury said. “He’s a very good athlete and he's doing a lot of lot of good things out there.

“I think there's a chance for explosiveness, getting down the field and making some big plays this year.”

Stats: 5 catches for 146 yards, 2 touchdowns

    Lakeridge

The Pacers are led in 2024 by junior Jaden Tragesser (5-foot-10, 180 pounds), who stepped in to lead a talented receiving corps after last year’s leader - Joey Olsen – graduated and left for USC.

Through four games — the Pacers are 4-0 with wins over Jefferson, Barlow, Mountainside and Wilsonville — Tragesser has made 17 catches for 214 yards (a 12.6 yards per catch average) with three touchdowns.

Here’s what Lakeridge coach Spencer Phillips had to say about Tragesser:

“Jaden kind of blew up after the Lake Oswego game last year,” Phillips said, adding that Tragesser was one of several “program guys that have just been waiting their turn in line.”

Beyond his receiving ability, Tragesser is part of a group that’s “gritty and they're the best blocking team we've had since being here.”

Stats: 17 carries for 214 yards, 3 touchdowns

    West Linn

The Lions are led in 2024 by senior Danny Wideman (6-foot-0, 185 pounds), a returning starter who earned first-team all-TRL and second-team all-state honors a year ago (as well as honorable mention honors as a kick returner).

Through four games — the Lions are 4-0 with wins over Eagle, Idaho, Sherwood, Sumner, Washington, and Skyview, Washington — Wideman has made 28 catches for 460 yards (a 16.4 yards per carry average) and two touchdowns.

Here’s what West Linn coach Jon Eagle had to say about Wideman:

“Danny is ... an explosive threat in our offense," Eagle said. "He has great hands to go along with great feet (and) he is a very good route runner.

"We try to find multiple ways to get him the ball (and) he is fun to be around — he never has a bad day."

Stats: 28 catches for 460 yards, 2 touchdowns

    Wilsonville

The Wildcats are led in 2024 by senior Nick Crowley (5-foot-10, 185 pounds), a four-year starter who won first-team all-district and first-team all-state honors in the Wildcats 2023 season.

Through four games — the Wildcats are 3-1 with wins over Nelson, Summit and Sunset, and a loss to Lakeridge — Crowley has made 29 catches for 486 yards – a 16.8 yards per catch average - with four touchdowns.

Here’s what Wilsonville coach Adam Guenther had to say about Crowley:

Crowley is “one of the best receivers in the state,” Guenther said. “(He’s) going to be hard to cover one-on-one.

“He runs crisp routes and doesn't drop balls. If he was four inches taller, you'd be seeing him playing somewhere big on Saturdays.”
