    Clayton chamber honors first responders

    CLAYTON — The Clayton Chamber of Commerce and its foundation saluted the commitment and bravery of local first responders during their annual First Responders Appreciation and Awards Ceremony on Sept. 12.

    The event celebrated the essential services provided by Clayton’s police, fire, utilities and EMS personnel.

    The ceremony included the presentation of the Clayton Chamber Foundation’s United Community Bank Scholarships, awarded to first responders furthering their education to enhance their professional skills and the quality of service they deliver to the community. This year’s event also extended recognition to the Town of Clayton Utilities Department, honoring its contributions to the town’s infrastructure and overall well-being.

    “First responders are the backbone of our community, stepping up in the most critical moments,” said Dana Wooten, president and CEO of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. “This event is an opportunity to honor their dedication and to support their growth through educational scholarships, thanks to our generous donors.”

    This year’s Outstanding Service Award recipients are:

    • Tony Atkinson, Clayton Fire Department.

    • Komivi Ekoule, Clayton Police Department.

    • Rod Harrison, Town of Clayton Water Resources.

    • Timothy Johnson, Town of Clayton Public Works.

    • Jon Huber, Town of Clayton Electric.

    • Katherine Seagroves, Johnston County EMS.

    This year’s UCB Scholarship recipients are:

    • Katelyn Blackmon, Johnston County EMS.

    • Jordan Clemmons, Johnston County EMS.

    • Stacey Coker, Johnston County EMS.

    • Adam Godwin, Johnston County EMS.

    • Jonathan K. Guider, the Clayton Police Department.

    • Shaughnessy Newsome, Johnston County EMS.

    • Tanna Twigg, Johnston County EMS.

    • Alexandria Woodall, Clayton Police Department.
