Chiefs Make Surprising Roster Announcement Before Week 5

The Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated heading into Week 5, however there's major concern regarding quarterback Patrick Mahomes' options at wide receiver.

With Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, their top free agent acquisition, hitting injured reserve before the season started, and Rashee Rice out for the foreseeable future, the Chiefs have four healthy wide receivers on the active roster, Xavier Worthy , Juju Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore and Justin Watson. Mecole Hardman didn't practice on Friday due to a knee injury,

The Chiefs were expected to elevate a wide receiver from the practice squad before Week 5, with special teams coordinator Dave Toub floating both Nikko Remigio and Montrell Washington as options, especially in the scenario Hardman can't start on Monday Night Football.

However, Kansas City ultimately went in a different direction.

The Chiefs decided to elevate tight end Jody Fortson to the active roster, per Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney .

While the bulk of Chiefs Kingdom was thrilled for Fortson, as he's a huge fan favorite, others were surprised by the decision. Arrowhead Addict's Price Carter posted , "Get ready to learn 13 personnel buddy," suggesting Kansas City will utilize an offense with three tight ends, one running back, and one wide receiver.

Of course, finding a true replacement Rice, who recorded 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games, is impossible without facilitating a major trade. If anyone can figure out a creative way to successfully insert Fortson into the offense, it's Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Between 2021 and 2022, Forston appeared in 21 games with the Chiefs, recording 14 receptions for 155 yards and four touchdowns. He missed the 2023 season due to a shoulder injury.

This author lists four receivers and doesn't mention Travis Kelce anywhere! What a horrible sports reporter!
