General Hospital: Carly Fight to Save Sonny Reputation

General Hospital reveals Sonny has always been seen as a formidable figure. In the past, Carly may have appreciated her ex-husband a bit more than she does today.

After all, the past several years have been rather eventful. Sonny returned home from Nixon Falls an altered man, whom Carly could not recognize.

He ruined the life she desired with Jason. He cheated by choosing Nina.

Then, while it wasn't his fault that someone messed with his bipolar medicine, he went off the rails and harmed her and her children for months.

Can Carly Keep Up the Act Without Sacrificing Donna?

She's having trouble recovering from that, and we can't blame her. She is now preoccupied with serving as his sole alibi for the murder of a federal agent.

As she begins to worry that the truth will be revealed and they will both be held accountable, Sonny may attempt to calm her fears.

But, will it be sufficient? Carly disliked this strategy from the outset. When she saw Sonny getting ready in Tracy's room, she didn't ask many questions.

She's been trained not to do so at this point, even when he tells her he wants her to lie and hide his whereabouts.

She hadn't expected to discover that FBI Agent John had been slain at the Quartermaine boathouse.

To make matters worse, a room full of Quartermaines imagined Sonny's tucking in his shirt indicated he and Carly had just gotten hot and heavy, and she was obliged to accept that deception reluctantly.

Now she can't get out of it without involving herself and Sonny in a crime.

Carly’s Trust in Danger as the Truth Unravels

As Carly becomes increasingly anxious that their lie about getting back together would fail to stop their daughter, Donna, from believing it, Sonny does everything he can to persuade her that everything will be OK.

There's only one problem. He can't do it this time.

The fact is that these two will need to go beyond a few public appearances over awkward champagne dinners for the authorities to take them seriously.

That means they'll have to lie to Donna, something Carly isn't happy with.

The last time Carly's life was on trial—ironically, due to Cates' hatred against Sonny—she almost got thrown in prison.

WSB Agent Jack saved her from that destiny by erasing the evidence file from the FBI's database.
