Sports brief: Stillwater Elks Hoop Shoot set for Oct. 6 at Salem Lutheran

The Stillwater Elks Lodge 179 is hosting its annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater starting at 1 p.m.

Competition for boys and girls will be held in three age groups, 8-9 years old, 10-11 and 12-13. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.Winners will advance to district competition with the opportunity to qualify for state, regional and national events. More than three million boys and girls are expected to compete in this year’s Elks Hoop Shoot, which is the largest of many youth activities sponsored by Elks Lodges. The six national champions will receive a trophy and their names will be inscribed on a plaque that appears at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
