NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Yonkers man was in court on attempted murder and hate crime charges on Friday after he allegedly stabbed a Jewish barber repeatedly with a pair of scissors in August, prosecutors said.

Ahmed Al Jabali, 34, has been remanded since his arrest and was arraigned in Westchester on Friday on an indictment charging him with attempted murder, assault and attempted assault as a hate crime; criminal possession of a weapon; and other related charges.

Al Jabali was initially charged in a felony complaint for the attack, which occurred on Aug. 29 at the victim’s barbershop on Yonkers Avenue. The complaint alleged that Al Jabali said “I want to kill you, you [expletive] Jew,” while stabbing the victim in the face, body, arms and hands with a pair of barber’s scissors.

The victim called police after the stabbing and was treated at a local hospital.

Officers with the Yonkers Police Department arrested Al Jabali shortly after the incident.

“My office will continue to work with law enforcement partners to seek accountability and justice in cases of hate-based violence and ensure our communities that we will not tolerate acts of hate in any form,” Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah said.

Al Jabali is expected back in court on Oct. 23.
