John Amos was worried daughter would turn death 'into circus' as he bid for delay in announcement

The circumstances surrounding John Amos' death are pitting his family against each other.

Following the announcement, his family released a joint statement on Facebook which accused his son, Kelly 'KC' Amos, Eugene Brummet and Belinda Foster of isolating the star from his family and close friends. They wrote: "Despite our repeated attempts to maintain contact, KC prevented access to him, controlled and monitored his calls and severed ties with John's daughter Shannon Amos, his brother Leslie 'Syl' Franklin, his grandchildren Quiera Colston and Jhazz Williams, his business manager Paul Baldessare, his god-daughter Amy Goudy, his niece Sherri Korsun, his former accountant and other close family members, friends, and loved ones."

However, the allegations are now being disputed by his publicist, Belinda, who claims that it was John's wish to keep the death quiet at first. Additionally, she said that KC was precluded from notifying his sister due to "a strict no-contact order from the Superior Court of New Jersey based on the Complaint that his sister Shannon brought against him in 2023."

In a statement to People , Belinda explained that John was "concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life." She plans to continue representing John in his legacy after 30 years of working for him as they "grew close to one another to the point of a familial relationship."

Furthermore, Belinda planned to "respond to [Shannon's statement] with firmness but compassion." The publicist added: "John loved Shannon but she was a difficult child to the point that John had to order that an unauthorized 'GoFundMe' page that she put up in June 2023 be shut down. For those concerned with John's state of mind, I should note that John had interviews with PEOPLE Magazine, Variety Magazine, Hollywood Reporter, and acted in SUITS LA all recently in 2024. Medical authorities have interviewed him in the last year and found him to be mentally sound."

The family alleged that John "suffered from dementia" and expressed concern that he "may have been neglected and isolated during his final days," claiming to receive photos from "concerned neighbors and a medical professional." They claimed: "One photo even prompted an Elder Abuse investigation to no avail."

They added: "While we mourn the loss of our beloved father, we are also saddened and outraged by KC Amos's actions. We refuse to rule out the possibility of foul play, especially given the involvement of two individuals, Eugene Brummer and Belinda Foster (who claims to have been John's spokesperson), who we believe may have taken advantage of his vulnerability as an elder. At a time when we should be grieving and celebrating our father's remarkable life, we find ourselves in the unfortunate position of seeking justice and clarity."
