The Colorado Buffaloes are on the rise, and as the season progresses, they’ve proven to be one of the most talked-about teams in college football. Led by head coach Deion Sanders, affectionately known as “Coach Prime,” the Buffaloes have already defied expectations. But the real question looms: Can Colorado win the rest of their games and make a historic run?

The Offense: Star Power and Potential

A key factor in the Buffaloes’ potential to dominate their remaining schedule is the firepower on offense. Shedeur Sanders has been the linchpin of Colorado’s attack, already amassing over 1,600 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in just five games. His poise and precision under pressure are complemented by his ability to spread the ball to a talented receiving corps, featuring dynamic playmakers like Jimmy Horn Jr. and Travis Hunter. Hunter’s dual-threat capability as both a wide receiver and a defensive back makes him arguably the best player in the country.

However, the offensive line remains an area of concern. Sanders has been sacked 18 times this season, which could hinder his ability to make plays if not addressed. A consistent run game would relieve some of that pressure, but the Buffs have yet to find a true feature back. Dallan Hayden, Micah Welch, and Isaiah Augustave have each had moments, but none have fully taken command.

    Defensive Resurgence: A Game-Changer

While the offense has garnered much attention, the Buffaloes’ defense may be the real difference-maker down the stretch. Last season, Colorado’s defense ranked 119th in the country. This year, under defensive coordinator Robert Livingston and with the help of several key transfers, the Buffaloes have made a massive leap, now ranked 31st in total defense. The improvements have been particularly evident in the run defense, where they’ve climbed from 122nd last year to 13th this season.

One of the most significant upgrades has been in tackling. Ranked 7th in the FBS in tackling efficiency, the Buffaloes’ defense has transformed into a unit capable of making big stops when it matters. With the likes of Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Nikhai Hill-Green stepping up, Colorado’s defense has become more disciplined and difficult to exploit. Their newfound strength on this side of the ball gives them a legitimate chance to shut down the top offenses they’ll face in the coming weeks.

Tough Road Ahead: What Stands in Their Way?

As formidable as the Buffaloes have become, the road ahead is filled with talented teams capable of causing trouble. First up is Kansas State, a team that has averaged over 31 points per game while boasting one of the most productive running games in the country. Shutting down their ground attack will be a major test for Colorado’s run defense.

Arizona and Texas Tech follow, both of which are explosive offenses, with Texas Tech putting up over 41 points per game. Behren Morton has been electric for the Red Raiders, and slowing him down will be another key challenge.

Finally, Utah looms as a potentially season-defining game. While not as potent without Cam Rising at quarterback, Utah’s physical defense, which has recorded 12 sacks on the season, will look to disrupt Colorado’s offensive rhythm. Rising could return for this matchup, which would add even more fireworks to this possible battle for the Big 12 title.

    Conclusion: A Path to Greatness

The Buffaloes’ remaining schedule is full of potential stumbling blocks, but this team is built to win now. With Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter leading the offense and a defense that’s vastly improved, Colorado has the talent to run the table. The key will be protecting their quarterback and continuing to play at a high level on defense. If they can do that, the Buffaloes could shock the college football world and earn a spot in the College Football Playoffs.

Now is the time for Colorado to seize the moment and make history.
