Community Christian’s fifth straight and final home game of the 2024 eight-player football season was a 43-13 victory for the Cyclones over Jones County Senior High in the first meeting of the programs Friday night, Oct. 4.
Junior Stephen Edwards ran for 126 yards and three touchdowns while catching a team-high five passes for 89 yards and another score for CCS, which assured itself of at least a .500 season with its fifth win in eight games. The Cyclones pulled away with two third-quarter touchdowns that turned a 20-7 halftime lead into a 29-point advantage.
Quarterback Jack Beamon enjoyed a 10-of-18 night throwing the ball for 159 yards and touchdowns to senior Connor Ferguson and Edwards. Ferguson caught four balls for 35 yards. Tee Bohne rushed for the other TD for CCS, which totaled 375 yards of offense.
Sophomore Jack Pritchard led the Cyclones with five tackles, including four solo stops, while Edwards and Ferguson each had four total tackles.
Community Christian and Jones Senior, an NCHSAA school playing independent eight-player football, will meet again to end the season Oct. 25 in Trenton. But before that, the Cyclones head to Belhaven next Friday, Oct. 11, to seek revenge against Pungo Christian for the Raiders’ 22-14 victory at CCS this past Monday, Sept. 30.
