Coroner identifies woman killed in 'murder-suicide' in Shelby County

UPDATE: Oct. 6 at 6:09 p.m.

Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers reports that 40-year-old Jessica Hager was shot and killed Saturday in her home by her sister-in-law's ex-boyfriend.

The man, who's identity remains unknown, entered the home and shot Hager. He then took his own life, Ivers said.

Hager's husband was home when the man entered, but escaped through the back door.

Ivers said that authorities had been told that an argument between the man and Hager's sister-in-law had taken place earlier.

Two adults were found dead Saturday morning in Shelby County, authorities report.

According to a press release from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded to the 8000 block of Bagdad Road for an "unknown emergency."

When deputies arrived, the two bodies were located. It is believed that there is no further threat to the public, the department said.

The incident remains under investigation.
