Steelers making 'aggressive' push for Davante Adams trade with Raiders

With wide receiver Davante Adams recently becoming available and the Pittsburgh Steelers having a need at the position, general manager Omar Kham reportedly isn't messing around.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini , the Steelers have been in contact with the Raiders about Adams, and she adds that Pittsburgh is making "an aggressive offer" for the star wideout.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers, who you may recall were interested in trading for Brandon Aiyuk before he signed an extension with San Francisco this summer, are also in touch with the Raiders’ front office," she wrote. "I’m told Pittsburgh is making an aggressive offer."

Russini adds that Adams' preference is to play for the New York Jets or New Orleans Saints, two teams that are also in the mix for the Raiders wide receiver, but Adams has concerns about New York because of the uncertainty of Aaron Rodgers' future there beyond this season.

While Adams might prefer the Saints and Jets over the Steelers, we do know he is open to playing for Pittsburgh, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport . Adams doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.

Unlike the drawn-out Brandon Aiyuk saga the Steelers went through during the offseason, this situation with Adams could move quickly. Russini reports that both Las Vegas and the veteran receiver "want to get a move on."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders are looking for a second-round pick and additional compensation beyond that, but people around the league believe the Raiders will only end up landing a third-rounder, per Russini.

The Steelers' need for a wide receiver is obvious. The offense has a shaky situation behind No. 1 George Pickens, an issue the steelers tried to resolve by trading for Aiyuk in the offseason.

Despite that, Russini actually listed Pickens as someone to keep an eye on ahead of the trade deadline, so take that for what it's worth.

It wouldn't make much sense for Pittsburgh to trade him, though, as the Steelers need to add another receiver on top of Pickens. Trading for Adams or another wideout and trading away Pickens would leave Pittsburgh right where it is now.
