Nick Saban drew some early morning laughs from the ESPN “College GameDay” crew at a fellow broadcaster and Stanford’s expense.

On Saturday, the famed pregame show was set at the University of California in Berkley for the first time in program history, and former Cardinal tight end Steve Coughlin, who is also known as Stanford Steve, was quick to make a jab at the Cal students behind him.

“I am biased though when it comes to the Cal fans,” Coughlin said while wearing a Stanford zip-up. “Whenever I played in that stadium it was sold out, they do a great job. But, I also wonder how many of these people are here because they didn’t get into Stanford.”

The comment fired up the crowd, and Pat McAfee yelled, “Shots fired!”

However, Saban came in with the gut punch without having a side in the rivalry.

“If it was so great at Stanford, why did you have a girlfriend here at Cal?” he clapped back with, which left the “College GameDay” crew in hysterics.

The hosts were got up from their seats in shock and clapped at the comment.

McAfee patted Saban on the arm and said: “Good question, coach.”

Coughlin also leaned back in his seat, full of laughter at the comment.

It’s unclear if Coughlin truly had a girlfriend at Cal or if it was the former Alabama coach just having some fun with his ESPN teammates.

Cal, 3-1, hasn’t always had the best football program to warrant much chatter, however, they are certainly known for their spirit even when the Golden Bears aren’t in competition for a national title.

The students brought a big crowd to the broadcast set, storming through the barriers in the early hours of the morning to be on camera.

The school will face the Miami Hurricanes (5-0) on Saturday night for the first time since 2008, when Cal beat them 24-17.

It will be their third meeting in history, with the Golden Bears holding a 2-0 record against the Hurricanes.
