A dangerous heatwave is gripping the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories. The intense heat, fueled by dry conditions and high pressure systems, is expected to peak today and continue through Sunday, October 6, bringing widespread heat risks to both inland and coastal areas.

Scorching Temperatures Expected Temperatures across the region are forecast to reach extreme highs. Interior areas could experience temperatures up to 105°F, while coastal regions will see temperatures rise to 95°F. The NWS noted a significant temperature gradient between the immediate coastline and areas just a few miles inland.

By 8:28 AM on Saturday, temperatures were already several degrees warmer than they were just 24 hours ago, with some areas recording temperatures up to 25°F higher. Heat products, including warnings and advisories, went into effect at 10:00 AM Saturday for coastal zones and will remain active through Sunday evening at 11:00 PM.

Heat Risk and Fire Danger This heatwave poses a moderate to major heat risk, with prolonged exposure to these high temperatures potentially leading to heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to take precautions such as staying indoors during the hottest parts of the day, drinking plenty of fluids, and checking on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and children.
