Even if he was healthy, we knew that Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw would not be the starter on the mound in tonight’s NLDS Game 1 against the San Diego Padres, that job belongs to Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Kershaw has been on the injured list since August 31st with a toe injury. The hope was that he would be back before the season ended, and healthy for a playoff run. Unfortunately, the injury did not progress, leaving his availability for the postseason cloudy.

Dave Roberts Reveals Clayton Kershaw’s Fate

Today, Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts announced his fate and it is not good news for fans of the Boys in Blue. Per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic , Kershaw’s season is over.

Before the postseason started, Roberts announced that Kershaw’s injury had not been progressing as they hoped, but there was still the sentiment that he would return at some point during a World Series run. That is no longer the case.

Yamamoto is on the mound to start tonight at Dodger Stadium, and Jack Flaherty is scheduled to pitch Game 2. Roberts revealed that Walker Buehler and Landon Knack will round out the starting rotation for the NLDS.
