The unranked Vanderbilt Commodores notched a massive college football upset on Saturday afternoon, taking down the previously-unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide with a 35-40 final score at FirstBank Stadium.

Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide were fresh off a stunning Top 5 win over the Georgia Bulldogs, but were unable to maintain that momentum into this Week 6 SEC matchup.

Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea handed Alabama its first loss of the DeBoer era, shocking the college football world.

Lea joined SEC Network sideline reporter Alyssa Lang for a postgame interview amidst the chaos as Vanderbilt fans stormed the field. The Gatorade-soaked head coach maintained his typical demeanor as he praised his team and quarterback Diego Pavia.

"This isn’t a finish point, but it’s a hell of an arrival." Lea said. "This is the dream right here. For the next 12 hours I’m going to enjoy the dream."

Pavia was absolutely stellar in this win over the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide. The New Mexico State transfer finished the game with 252 yards and two touchdowns on 16/20 passing. He also added 57 yards rushing on the ground.

This is by far the biggest win of Lea's head coaching career with Vanderbilt. The fourth-year sideline leader now has his team off to a 3-2 start to the 2024 college football season.

Lea and the Commodores will look to continue this momentum into next weekend's SEC matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats.
