What Kalen DeBoer Said About Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia's Performance in Historic Upset

Typically, when the Alabama Crimson Tide takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores, it ends in a beatdown in favor of the Tide.

In fact, coming into Saturday, Vandy hadn't beaten Alabama since the Ronald Reagan administration. A streak that ended thanks to the gritty performance by Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia in the team's 40-35 win.

The New Mexico State transfer models his game after a former thorn in the side of Nick Saban, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Pavia did a fantastic impersonation of the former Heisman winner, as the moment never seemed too big for him. Something that Kalen DeBoer acknowledged after the game when speaking to the media.

"Their quarterback did a nice job creating," DeBoer said of Pavia. "We've got to do a better job of being disciplined. You know, do our job. He keeps things alive with his feet. Whether it was third down or just other downs. They converted some third-and-longs. I think those are the frustrating ones, so just great execution on their part."

Pavia finished the game having completed 16-of-20 passes (80%) for 252 yards and two scores, while adding 56 yards on the ground. He also expressed just how much the win meant to him as the fans stormed onto the field.

"Games like this change your life,” Pavia said.

A sentiment that can be true for both teams.

The Tide will have to move on quickly as they will host a sneaky good South Carolina squad next week.
