A new restaurant has opened in Columbus, Ohio

COLUMBUS, OH - A new restaurant has come to the city's University District neighborhood.

Are you craving Mediterranean fare? If you answered yes to that question, you might want to check out the new restaurant Shawarma Joe’s, which is located in Columbus at 14 E 11th Ave. According to the restaurant's social media account, Shawarma Joe's celebrated its grand opening on September 16.

The restaurant's menu features customizable wraps, pitas, and bowls. You start with one of these protein options: chicken, crispy chicken, steak, or falafel. Then you can add toppings like hummus, garlic, jalapeno, lettuce, onion, coleslaw, cabbage, cucumber, and/or tomato. You can then add one of these sauces: tahini, garlic, hot sauce, BBQ, or Joe's sauce. Prices range from $7.99 to $17.99.

As for sides, the restaurant has options like house-made hummus, basmati rice (which is seasoned with cardamon), falafel, freshly baked pita bread, and fries. Side prices range from $1.99 to $5.99.

Saw this restaurant while walking, and realized it was its first day open. I love middle eastern cuisine so I decided to go in and try. it’s set up kind of like a middle eastern version of chipotle, which I like. the menu isn’t overwhelming if you are new to the cuisine. they have the cult favorites and you will not be disappointed! I got a chicken shawarma bowl with hummus and it was delicious!! chicken seasoned and cooked beautifully. if you’re on campus and happen to be near, you should definitely give it a try :)

The food was delicious. I had the falafel meal with tahini. The rice has a great saffron flavor. The falafel are small and crispy outside, a little gooey inside but still good. And they could use more parsley. Service was kind and quick. You order in a line with all the sides for you to pick, like with Chipotle. They gave an industrial vibe with thick wooden tables. Definitely caters to the casual university crowd. I will go back.
