One Piece Anime 25th Anniversary Special Episode On Oct. 20

To celebrate 25 years of the One Piece anime, short stories from the Straw Hat Stories novel will be made into a TV special.

The commemoration of the One Piece world continues! To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the anime adaptation of One Piece , the series will be adapting the short stories from Tomohito Ohsaki’s Straw Hat Stories novel into a TV special titled ONE ​​PIECE FAN​​ LETTER . A trailer for the episode features a young girl gazing at a wall of wanted posters, including bounties for the Straw Hats and other key characters like Trafalgar Law. The special will air on October 20, 2024.

The ONE PIECE FAN LETTER is directed by Megumi Ishitani, known for episodes 957 and 1015, as well as openings 25 and 26. The script was written by Momoka Toyoda (My Happy Marriage), with character designs and animation direction by Keisuke Mori, who also worked on opening 26. The cool thing about the Straw Hats Stories novel is that it offers different perspectives on significant events involving the Straw Hats, in addition to the main characters’ viewpoints.

Based on the original Straw Hats Stories novel it included a handful of stories. This includes a story of a Marine watching Luffy trying to protect Ace during Marineford and how it reflects their relationship with their younger brother, who is also a Marine on Marineford. Another story is of Zoro getting into an argument over who’s the best swordsman after Dressrosa. In another short story, a child is seen pirating the Soul King’s concert on Sabaody Archipelago.

The trailer showed a black-and-white representation of what audiences will get to see, from other perspectives of the Straw Hats crew. It was unclear if fans around the world will get to experience it on October 20th, but there should be some kind of post-release on Crunchyroll most likely. Even an English dub release was not revealed.

The One Piece world has been through a lot in the past few years, celebrating its 1000th episode. With the anime and manga running for over 20 years, the show is also going through an overhaul. The show is getting remade under the title The One Piece, which is essentially all the episodes that audiences enjoyed before but with fewer recaps and prolonged shots. CloverWorks is slated to oversee this project and is referred to as the ideal way to view the show.

Netflix has also been releasing countless news articles about the Season 2 live-action adaptation of the anime/manga. The latest news noted that Lera Abova would be Nico Robin, while Joe Manganiello was confirmed as the infamous Crocodile. The updated cast list includes many notable One Piece characters and actors to play their parts:

So far, it appears the four confirmed stories featured in ONE ​​PIECE FAN​​ LETTER will be focused on Luffy, Zoro, Nami and Franky. This could be the case, or it could not be.
