The Dolphins already are without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered a concussion in Week 2.

Now, Miami is down another starter on offense due to a head injury.

Running back De'Von Achane left the Week 5 Dolphins-Patriots game in the first quarter after taking a heavy hit from a Patriots defender. He was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Achane entered Week 5 with 165 rushing yards and a touchdown on 53 carries. The dynamic back also had 20 receptions for 187 yards and a receiving touchdown.

At the time of his injury, the second-year running back had three rushes for 18 yards, and a catch for -1 yard against New England.

Here is more on Achane's injury in Week 5.

    De'Von Achane injury update

During the first quarter of the Dolphins-Patriots game, Achane took a heavy hit from New England safety Jaylin Hawkins. The back of Achane's head slammed on the ground after the contact, and Achane immediately crumbled in pain.

He was immediately taken to the medical tent to be evaluated by the training staff. He initially was ruled questionable to return by Miami, but soon after, the Dolphins said that he was officially out for the remainder of the Week 5 contest.

With Achane no longer available for Miami, Raheem Mostert took over as RB1 for Mike McDaniel's team. Mostert split the duties last year with Achane before the speedy back grabbed hold of the starting job over the veteran due to injury issues for Mostert in recent weeks.

Achane entered concussion protocol on exiting the Dolphins' clash with New England. He'll be evaluated over the course of the week but could miss out on Miami's Week 6 game vs. the Colts depending on how he responds to treatment, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport .

Entering the game against the Patriots, Mostert had one game under his belt. He had six carries for nine yards in the team's Week 1 win over the Jaguars.

    De'Von Achane final stats

    • 3 carries
    • 12 yards
    • 1 target
    • 1 reception
    • -1 receiving yard

Achane wasn't able to return, but luckily Miami was able to hold on for a win. The Dolphins beat the Patriots 15-10 for their first win since Tua Tagovailoa got hurt in Week 2.
