A new brewery and taproom is in the works in Wyandotte. Northern Wind Brewing plans to occupy the former Dollar Depot space at 3353 Third Street in Wyandotte and is anticipated to open next spring. This story was first seen on Detroit News .

Northern Wind Brewing started as a passion project by brewmasters and founders Daniel Shock and Keith Smith in 2017. Since then, the pair have won several beer-making contests, including the Urbanrest Brewing contest in 2022. Seeing that their brews are widely enjoyed beyond their close circles, the pair is now taking steps forward toward building their first brick-and-mortar brewery and taproom.

The new brick-and-mortar brewery is being opened by Shock, Smith, and Shock’s son, Martin Shock . The space will consist of a 1,100-square-foot brewhouse and a 92-seat tap room, including a 37-foot u-shaped bar. The taproom will offer a wide variety of craft beers to suit the flavor preferences of different beer drinkers, covering everything from hoppy IPAs to easy-to-drink wheat, pale-ale, fruit beers, and lagers. Meanwhile, though the menu is still under development, a News Herald coverage reported that “patrons can expect traditional bar food, pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches, grilled steak subs and fresh salads.”

What Now Detroit reached out to the owners but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage. For those eager to follow along Northern Wind’s journey, the founders are regularly posting construction updates on the brewery’s Facebook .
