Liverpool is making strides in contract negotiations with two key defenders - Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds are deep into discussions with Quansah about a new deal, while talks with French defender Konate are just getting started. Both players look set for a long-term future under new manager Arne Slot after working with the pair for a few months.

Quansah, 21, inked a four-year deal back in May 2023 but hasn't yet signed a new contract to reflect his current first-team status. The England Under-21 defender made a name for himself last season under Jurgen Klopp, becoming a regular fixture in the first team. Quansah clocked up 33 appearances last season for the Reds.

However, his last contract was penned before his rise to prominence, meaning he's yet to be properly rewarded with first-team terms. This is expected to be rectified in the coming weeks as discussions are nearing completion.

Liverpool is also eager to secure Konate, 25, who has two years remaining on his current deal. The French defender signed a five-year contract when he transferred from RB Leipzig in 2021.

Talks with Konate's representatives are still in the early stages, but there's no sense of urgency from either party. Konate has reclaimed his spot in the starting line-up under new head coach Arne Slot, reinforcing his position within the squad.

Liverpool have also been discussing the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah.

All three players are entering the final year of their contracts, but the club's sporting department is also ensuring other contracts are being addressed.
