Louisville's best-known magician Lance Burton reappears this week in the city where he learned magic as he takes part in Louisville's International Festival of Film .

Fans of the master magician won't have to travel to Las Vegas to see him in person. Burton will premiere his film “Billy Topit Master Magician” on the opening night of the annual festival on Thursday, Oct. 10 at The Muhammad Ali Center , 144 N. Sixth St. The evening will include red carpet festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m., the screening of Burton's film and an afterparty.

Founded by Louisville native and Hollywood movie star Conrad Bachmann , Louisville’s International Festival of Film showcases emerging filmmakers while also spotlighting local and international films. The three-day festival runs through Oct. 12 with several screenings at the Ali Center and Louisville Slugger Theatre , 316 W. Main St.

Now in its 16th year, the festival has grown to include 3D films, animated features, documentaries, horror films, and full-length pictures. Notable past films include "The Burning Plain" starring Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence and "Le Ride" directed by " The Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we have received over the years for this festival. We have reached our 16th year and every year I am amazed at the quality of the submitted films," Bachmann said. "The entire team behind the festival is so excited to welcome this year’s filmmakers and guests to Louisville this October.”

The opening night film, "Billy Topit Master Magician," stars Burton as a magician who performs at children's parties but is being chased by the local mob. The Louisville native also wrote and directed the family-friendly film which took home the award for Best Family Film at the 2016 Wild Rose Independent Film Festival . It also won Distinctive Achievement Awards for Production Design, Art Direction, Costumes and Visual Effects.

Tickets for the opening night film and party are $25. Weekend and day passes are $15. For a full schedule of weekend events, tickets, and information, visit louisvillefilmfestival.org .
