Mayor Josh Levy officially declared a State of Emergency for the City of Hollywood as Tropical Storm Milton intensifies, now a Category 2 storm, and moves towards the Florida peninsula. The declaration, announced on the City of Hollywood, Florida Government Facebook page, effective as of 5:00 p.m. on October 5, 2024, comes in response to the storm's expected transformation into a hurricane.

    Storm Preparations

The City of Hollywood is taking proactive measures to ensure public safety and minimize potential damage:

Flood Watch and Rainfall: A Flood Watch is currently in effect for Hollywood through Thursday, with the National Weather Service forecasting strong winds and heavy rainfall. Up to 8 inches of rain is possible in the area.

Public Works Operations: Crews are actively collecting storm-related litter and clearing catch basins. Residents are urged to check and clear the basins on their streets to facilitate proper stormwater drainage.

Enhanced City Services: Public Utility crews are monitoring deployed pumps, while Hollywood Fire Rescue and Police Department personnel are on enhanced schedules and patrol.

    Resident Guidelines

Hollywood residents are advised to take the following precautions:

    • Secure garbage and recycling carts, marking them with addresses to aid in clean-up efforts
    • Avoid parking on swales
    • Utilize City-operated parking garages free of charge until further notice

    Sand Distribution

Sand for sandbags is available on a first-come, first-served basis at:

    • Jefferson Park, 1501 Jefferson Street
    • Rotary Park, 3150 Taft Street
    • Driftwood Community Center, 3000 N. 69th Ave

Residents are reminded not to take sand from ballfields.

As Hurricane Milton approaches Hollywood, Florida, officials urge residents to stay informed through trusted sources like the US National Weather Service Miami Florida, and to complete storm preparations promptly.

hollywood has serious flooding problems because of too much building and antiquated drainage, which is caused by levy who is all about money and not about fixing these problems.
