At the conclusion of the Tour Championship on Sunday, 30 Korn Ferry Tour players earned a spot on the PGA Tour. One of them was Braden Thornberry.

Thornberry didn’t have a lot of wiggle room coming into the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. He needed to finish no worse than solo second place to earn his tour card. Thornberry did that and then some. Thornberry made a birdie on the final hole to finish the day with a bogey-free round of 66 (-6). That moved him to -9 for the tournament, good enough for an outright win.

When play concluded, an emotional Thornberry was interviewed by The Golf Channel reporter, Jake Marsh.

“Man, it’s amazing. I played good all year and just hadn’t quite got it to work out for me. For this all to come together today is just special,” Thornberry said.

Thornberry continued to fight back tears of joy and relief as he talked about the tournament’s double significance – both winning a pro event and reaching the PGA Tour for the first time.

“It’s a weird thing because it’s getting my first pro win as well as getting to the PGA Tour,” Thornberry said. “I’ve just worked so hard to get here. A lot of stuff I feel like hasn’t gone quite my way over the last 5 years or so. To finally have something go my way and play well at the right time is just amazing.”
