    Outdoor Hula Hoop Workout Mondays

    Adults are invited to join in the Outdoor Hula Hoop Workout at 5 p.m. on Mondays at the South Cobb Regional Library, 805 Clay Road in Mableton.

    The one-hour session will include time for warmup and practice before the full body workout with weighted hula hoops and water provided by the library. In the event of inclement weather, the Oct. 14 session will be cancelled.

    Future Workout Monday sessions are scheduled for Oct. 21, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4.

    Cobb County Sheriff’s Office End of Year Community Briefing

    The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office will hold an End of Year Community Briefing will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Kennesaw State University Center, 3333 Busbee Drive in Kennesaw.

    The briefing, led by Sheriff Craig Owens, will include a Q&A session. There will also be a block party with a DJ, student performances, community displays, food and activities. Participants can also meet the four-legged members of the Mounted and K-9 units.

    Oct. 11 is deadline for waterSmart art contest

    Cobb County and City of Marietta School District's middle school students are invited to use their talent to create a 2-D work of art for the 15th annual waterSmart waterArt Calendar Contest.

    Artwork should be made in landscape orientation using the student's medium of choice including, but not limited to, colored pencils, paint, crayons, photo collage or mixed mediums.

    Along with the submitted pieces, students must turn in a 50-word statement explaining how their art answers the question, "How is water important to me?" Winning entries will be included in the 2025 waterSmart Calendar. Submissions are due by Oct. 11.

    October Costume Swap

    A free October Costume Swap will be this week at the Mountain View Regional Library, 3320 Sandy Plains Road in Marietta.

    Participants can donate old costumes and accessories or shop the swap to find a new look. Participants can drop off costumes on Oct. 9 at the library, The Space Shop or Mi Studio Salon. The Shop the Swap will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the library. A donation is not required to participate in the swap.

    The Art of Healing

    The November show at dk Gallery, 25 West Park Square in Marietta, is called “The Art of Healing.”

    The opening reception will be Nov. 1. The evening will begin with a panel discussion, from 3 to 5 p.m., led by Paula Sanders, Jason Lesandrini and Natalie McNeal of the Georgia Hospice & Palliative Care Organization. This will include an artist talk with Judi Bommarito, Amy Cobb, Holly Irwin and Wyanne Thompson.

    The show will run for two weeks, concluding on Nov. 16. It will feature Bommarito, Cobb, Irwin, Thompson, Soulaf Abas, Clara Blalock, Patti Ganek, Shannon Deana, Johnson, Connie Karleta-Sales, Shellie Lewis Crisp and Brooke Shaden.

    After the panel, participants can stay for the opening reception and Marietta Square Art Walk, which will be from 5 to 8 p.m.

    Sherlock Holmes Group meets Oct. 14

    North Cobb Irregulars, a group dedicated to joining together to discuss Sherlock Holmes, Holmes-related text and his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, will meet at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the North Cobb Regional Library, 3535 Old 41 Highway in Kennesaw.

    The discussion group is led by Dr. Helen Cauley, writer and President Emerita of the Atlanta Sherlock Holmes Society. The group meets the second Monday of each month. New members are always welcome. No reservation is required.

    Vision screenings

    Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation announced they will provide comprehensive eye health care to address the growing need for vision care services for children in some of the most populated counties in Georgia through the Sight For Kids program, co-founded by Lions Clubs International Foundation and Johnson & Johnson.

    In coordination with the current Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s school-based screening programming, the Sight For Kids program will expand into Cobb, Chatham, Clayton, Fulton and Gwinnett counties aiming to provide vision screenings to 10,000 students in over 50 schools over two years.

    The program aims to conduct eye screening for 10,000 children to identify students with a potential vision problem, conducted by Georgia Lions Club members trained by Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation.

    An anticipated average of 40% of the children screened will be referred to local ophthalmologists and optometrists for comprehensive exams and appropriate treatment, as needed - such as free eyeglasses or otherwise, such as eye drops or referrals for surgery.

    Smyrna’s Annual Birthday Celebration and Culture & Spirit Festival

    The City of Smyrna will have its 152nd Birthday Celebration and Culture & Spirit Festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 12 in Village Green Park, 1250 Powder Springs Street SE in Smyrna.

    There will be live music, cultural performances and fireworks. Bands for the Atlanta Road concert, beginning at 7 p.m., include The Roots and The War and Treaty.

    Harvest Festival

    Experience 19th century farm life at the Mable House Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Mable House, 5239 Floyd Road SW in Mableton.

    The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Mable House, will have demonstrations and hands-on activities including blacksmithing, pickling, pottery, weaving, butter-churning, candle making, letter stamping and corn husk doll crafting. Tots will have storytime and crafts at the Sweet Potato House.

    There will be games, a petting zoo and entertainers. Gardeners can pick up heirloom seeds and planting tips at a seed swap. Parking and entry are free. Food vendors will have snacks for purchase.

    Keep Cobb Beautiful’s Paint Recycling Amnesty Event

    The Keep Cobb Beautiful’s Paint Recycling Amnesty Event will be 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 19 at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road SW in Marietta.

    Items accepted oil-based paint, latex paint and spray paint. There is a limit of 10 gallons per vehicle.

    Items not accepted batteries (any type/size), adhesives, flammables, photo chemicals, radioactive materials, biohazardous waste, biomedical waste, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, hobby and artists’ supplies, swimming pool chemicals, X ray film, mercury, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, insecticides, antifreeze, cleaners, used motor oil, ammunition and agricultural waste.

    Powder Springs Trunk-or-Treat Fall Festival

    The City of Powder Springs will have their annual Trunk-or-Treat Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Thurman Springs Park.

    Local businesses and organizations will provide trunks, tents and tables with candy and activities for children and family.

    Fall-O-Ween Fest

    The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation will have the annual Fall-O-Ween Fest from 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Swift-Cantrell Park, 3140 Old 41 Highway in Kennesaw.

    Activities include a candy trail, costume contests, scavenger hunt, crafts, field games and music. Concessions and merchandise from local crafters will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

    Costume contests will take place every 30 minutes beginning at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to three winners at each time frame. The costume contest is open to all ages and dogs.

    JamBOOree

    The Acworth Halloween JamBOOree will be 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Logan Farm Park, 4405 Cherokee Street in Acworth.

    The event is open to all families looking to have a spooky good time celebrating Halloween with lots of fun festivities. There will be music, games and a costume contest for all age groups.

    City of Acworth Fall Town Hall

    The City of Acworth Fall Town Hall with Mayor Tommy Allegood will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Tanyard Creek Overlook at the Acworth Community Center.

    Participants can learn about upcoming and ongoing city projects. This event also allows the Acworth community to learn more about the city by engaging with department leaders who will be onsite to discuss their department’s roles within the city team.

    U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants

    Participants can join the Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants for a special concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Lassiter High School Concert Hall, 2601 Shallowford Road in Marietta.

    The U.S. Air Force Band is composed of 184 active-duty Air Force members. It aims to inspire and uplift audiences through music while supporting the mission and objectives of the Air Force.

    Chattahoochee Nature Center Halloween Hikes

    The Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell, will have the 39th annual Halloween Hikes from Oct. 25-27.

    The event brings to life the stories of some of CNC’s resident raptors, amphibians and mammals that call the Chattahoochee Watershed home. Participants can explore nature at night on both the paved Wildlife Walk and the ADA-compliant River Boardwalk Trail. Participants can enjoy glow-in-the-dark games, arts and crafts, face painting, food trucks, s’mores, craft beer, wine and a signature cocktail.

    Cobb Solicitor General Makia Metzger will present a Sneaker Ball Fundraising event at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25.

    Cobb Fall Festival of Fun adds haunted house

    Cobb’s annual Fall Festival of Fun will be 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Jim R. Miller Park.

    Kids of all ages can hop on the whimsical hayride, strike a pose in the vignette photo booths with favorite characters, enjoy arts and crafts, explore handcrafted goods and take in performances. Participants also get chills down their spine at the new haunted house. Entry to the festival and haunted house are free and parking is free.

    Cobb PARKS' Haunted House will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. from Oct. 23-26.

    Nightmare on Main 5K

    The Nightmare on Main 5K is the final race of the 2024 Kennesaw Grand Prix Series.

    The race is Oct. 26. The course is mostly asphalt and is flat and fast. The race begins at Kennesaw First Baptist Church, heads north on Main Street, meanders through Swift-Cantrell Park, and finishes in downtown Kennesaw. Runners will cross the finish line into a post-race party for the awards ceremony and celebration.

    The race is professionally timed and USAT&F Certified. The course is perfect for competitive runners seeking a qualifying time for the Peachtree Road Race. The run is part of the Fit City Kennesaw initiative which encourages residents to become more active and engage in wellness-related activities.

    Boos & Briefs Underwear Drive is Oct. 30

    The Boos & Briefs Underwear Drive, benefiting MUST Ministries, will be 5 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Glover Park Brewery.

    Help Kiwanis Under 40 of Marietta keep the members of the community experiencing homelessness in clean, fresh and fancy briefs by donating new-with-tags underwear. Trendy styles preferred. All adult and children sizes needed. The event will also feature lots of giveaways and prizes. Ten percent of the taproom sales will be donated to MUST Ministries.

    Safe-O-Ween

    Safe-O-Ween will be 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the Acworth Police Department, 4440 Acworth Industrial Drive NW in Acworth.

    Participants can bring their elementary-aged children to the Acworth Police Department for an afternoon of Halloween fun and free candy.

    3rd Annual We CARE Vet Fair

    The 3rd Annual We CARE Vet Fair, presented by United Military Care, will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway SE in Marietta.

    Veterans, active duty personnel, members of the National Guard, reservists, caregivers and families are invited to participate in Georgia's largest veteran resource fair. Participants should bring their DD214, medical documentation, power of attorney if applicable and identification to meet in person with service officers, claims specialists, disability raters and toxic exposure representatives. At the event, veterans can enroll in VA Healthcare, which includes medical evaluation.

    Acworth Beer and Wine Festival

    The annual Acworth Beer & Wine Festival will take place on Nov. 2 at Logan Farm Park, 4405 Cherokee Street in Acworth.

    Participants can enjoy over 100 craft beers, wine, live music and food. The event is for people ages 21 and older. No kids or pets will be allowed.

    Laugh Wars: A Improv Comedy Showdown For Charity

    Twinspeak Productions will host Laugh Wars: A Improv Comedy Showdown For Charity at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 at 2550 Sandy Plains Road, Suite 200 in Marietta.

    Two teams, Black Ground and Improvability Theory, will compete in a comedic battle based on audience suggestions. The audience will also have the power to decide the winning team and Twinspeak Productions will donate to the winning team's charity of choice.

    The show is for ages 16 and up. However, all attendees must be accompanied by an adult, as this is also a BYOB event. Food will be available for purchase.
