Is Jericho Sims An Answer for Knicks' Center Depth Concerns?

When the New York Knicks lost Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, they understood that it was a difficult but necessary decision for both parties.

After all, the team had opted to go after bigger fish like star wing Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby over any significant interior help on the inside. Following the trade for Karl Anthony-Towns, New York's troubles at center seemed at an end.

But with Mitchell Robinson dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of the playoffs last season, and with him teasing he could want out of New York City following the KAT trade, a need for a backup center has opened up for New York.

The good news for them is that their replacement for Robinson both on and off the court may already be on the roster.

Jericho Sims has never been a dominating force on the court since the Knicks drafted him with the 58th overall pick in the 2021 draft. That being said, his rebounding and defensive ability could lead New York to believe with more time, the Texas product could be exactly the kind of player the team has been looking for.

Sims recorded 10 rebounds and three points in New York's 111-109 victory over the Charlotte Hornets to kick off the preseason for the organization in 2024.

Even more impressive is that five of the 10 rebounds came offensively for Sims.

The 25-year-old is still a work in progress, but the Knicks have plenty of depth to remain successful moving forward into this season.

Whether Robinson is on the team or not.
