Horses and Heroes is a life saver

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Tamara Demetroulis volunteers at Horses and Heroes because she saw first-hand how they helped her brother overcome his PTSD after retiring from the military.

“I want other families to get their relatives back, like I did,” Demetroulis said. “My brother was lost and Horses and Heroes helped him find himself.”

Horses and Heroes is a nonprofit that rescues first responders and veterans, as well as the horses they use for therapy.

Julie Baker is the founder, and she started the nonprofit because of her love for horses, her love for veterans, and her background as a member of a military family who rescued horses.

Because of her service to animals and veterans in the community, Demetroulis nominated Baker for FOX4’s Pay it Forward where she received a $400 gift card.
