20 years ago, an anime adaptation of the popular shonen manga Bleach was first aired in Japan. It became an overnight sensation, almost instantly cementing itself as one of the greats, and since then, it’s been massively popular — even though there was an eight-year gap in production. Now, to celebrate the anniversary, Aniplex has released a lovely little video with some remade scenes.

The video is two minutes long, and is set to the Bankai version of the iconic Number One song that acts as main character Ichigo Kurosaki’s big battle theme in the series. In it, we see a montage of scenes from throughout the series’ history, all remade and re-animated in the style of the current series, Thousand-Year Blood War, which aired the first episode of Part 3 on the weekend after having its release date announced at Anime Expo 2024 .

The animation is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s lovely to see these scenes recreated in the modern art style — especially since some of the earlier episodes were quite rough, visually. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that the earlier episodes are going to be remade in their entirety anytime soon, like the upcoming The One Piece remake anime coming to Netflix . That’s a bummer, but Bleach isn’t quite long enough to need one, at just under 400 episodes at the time of writing.

Bleach is currently available as one of the best anime on Disney Plus or Hulu , depending on where you are in the world. Anime fans in the US and Canada are able to watch it on Hulu, while just about everywhere else in the world has it, along with a host of other anime, available on Disney Plus.

The Thousand-Year Blood War saga is the final arc in the Bleach story, and is set to be made up of four parts. The first part aired in 2022, with the second coming in 2023 and the third having now started in 2024. It’s expected that the series will wrap up next year at the current pace.
