Barbie Unveils New Desi Doll To Celebrate Festival Of Diwali

Barbie unveiled its first-ever Barbie Diwali doll collaboration with globally recognized Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre.

Dongre is an Indian couturier who has built a global fashion empire with a mission to empower rural women artisans and sustain the exquisite craftsmanship of the country.

She is the first designer to create a Diwali doll for Barbie Signature. Her work, including this look for Barbie, beautifully blends modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship acknowledging Barbie’s place in global fashion. The Barbie Diwali doll celebrates India’s cultural heritage by commemorating one of India’s most popular festivals, Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness.

The Barbie Diwali is outfitted in a Moonlight Bloom set with a choli top, floral Koti vest and lehenga skirt adorned with dahlias, jasmine, and Indian lotus—symbols of strength and beauty. Golden bangles and shimmering earrings complete the look, reflecting the radiant lights of the festival.

Through her renowned fashion label, Dongre serves as an advocate for female empowerment and representation. Her brand has spearheaded initiatives for training tribal women in garment-making and partnered with government agencies and NGOs to provide steady employment opportunities to skilled rural artisan women.
