Ex-Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has been singing the praises of Karim Adeyemi amid speculation linking the player with a move to Anfield.

A star performer for Borussia Dortmund and previously impressing at RB Salzburg, Adeyemi netted a hat-trick against Celtic in the Champions League recently, capturing further attention.

With Liverpool seemingly on the lookout for Mohamed Salah's eventual successor - with his contract ticking down after an unforgettable spell at Anfield - Adeyemi could be the man to step into those sizeable boots.

  • Although not yet hitting top gear at Dortmund, Adeyemi's potential has been noted by Can, who knows the Liverpool way having played alongside Salah for four years.

"He [Adeyemi] played fantastically," Can extolled in his chat with the Bundesliga site. "Not just today, but also in the last few weeks. He plays with more maturity and more determination. That must continue to be his aim."

Moreover, Edin Terzic, who took Dortmund to their recent Champions League heights, has heralded Adeyemi's swift feet as truly game-changing.

He explained: "This is the quality of Karim. It was a corner kick and we defended it quite well. It was a dangerous situation but then when you see his acceleration, and this is something we showed him at half-time as well.

"And this is what he did. His first touch was there to accelerate the game. If you are quick like this then it is going to be very tough for every defense to defend against him. It was a great goal and it was very important as it was the winning goal. I hope that he can continue to perform like this."

Salah has previously stated that this season could be his last at Liverpool, hinting at a lack of progress in contract talks. Despite this, he's started the season in fine form, focusing solely on his game rather than his future at the club.

He remarked: "I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and try to think positive, because as you know this is my last year in the club. I just want to enjoy it. I don't want to think about it, but I feel I'm free to play football and we'll see what can happen next year."
