Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn has unveiled its all-new 2025 Ford Expedition lineup of full-size SUVs redesigned to help active families move up to eight people “with better versatility, advanced technology, and improved capability,” according to the automaker.

The fifth-generation Expedition is available with either a standard-wheelbase or extended-length Expedition MAX, and with Active, King Ranch, Platinum, and Tremor option packages.

“For Expedition customers, family is at the center of everything they do,” says Trevor Scott, general manager of Ford Utilities. “We spent more than 1,100 hours talking with customers about their everyday lives. And with those insights we’ve rethought and redesigned Expedition to help customers make the most of their precious time with family and to make life easier – before, during and after every trip they make.”

Expedition Active, King Ranch, and Platinum include a standard 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine rated at 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. A High Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost with 440 horsepower and 510 pounds et of torque1 is standard for the all-new TREMOR® and available for Platinum.

The new Ford Split Gate makes every Expedition the only vehicle in its class that combines the best of a traditional SUV liftgate with the cargo management of a pickup truck tailgate, according to Ford. Three-quarters of the gate raises like a traditional liftgate, while the lower quarter folds down like a truck’s tailgate.

“It was designed to not only get customers to where they need to go, but to be the center of the experience once they arrive,” says Jill Dougherty, exterior designer on the Expedition. “Our goal was to enable customers to linger longer whether they’re at the stadium or the campsite.”

The tailgate includes an available seatback from the available Cargo Tailgate Manager. The seatback also transforms to turn the tailgate into a serving table, and power outlets in the cargo area are an arm’s length away.

Inside, Ford has produced what it calls “a one-of-a-kind family command center.”

The new Ford Digital Experience is designed to allow greater connection and personalization for customers through driver-specific profiles, including some of their favorite apps, helping make time behind the wheel more enjoyable, even when parked.

The Ford Digital Experience comes to life for Expedition owners through display screens, including a 24-inch panoramic display, which takes the place of a traditional gauge cluster. Unlike other vehicles in the class, the panoramic display is positioned near the lower edge of the windshield to help keep drivers looking at the road ahead. This enables sight lines over – not through – the steering wheel.

Designed to prioritize the use of voice, Google Assistant serves as the default voice assistant and Alexa Built-in also is available as an alternative for in-vehicle controls, including to set in-vehicle temperature, search information, find and set a destination and request a specific broadcast or satellite radio station. It also can help with making calls, sending texts, setting meetings, and controlling connected smart home devices.

To optimize the Ford Digital Experience, the all-new Ford Connectivity Package gives owners the ability to use the Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Google Play apps, and embedded Google Maps seamlessly.

New Expedition customers can choose how they want to activate the Ford Connectivity Package. At vehicle order, customers can select a one-time purchase without having to worry about setting up a subscription. Non-subscribers will receive a one-year complimentary trial upon activation. Following the one-year trial, customers can subscribe annually.

Ford is expanding the availability of Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving across the Expedition lineup, making it available to activate on nearly 90 percent of all Expedition models. Now, Platinum, King Ranch, Tremor, and Active models are equipped with BlueCruise hardware.

If the customer chooses not to activate BlueCruise, they will experience hands-free highway driving with a complimentary 90-day trial. At the end of the trial, customers have the flexibility to activate annually or monthly, based on their needs.

Expedition offers an optional new Digital Device Holder mounted to the back of the first-row headrests. The device easily clamps firmly around nearly any digital device – from standard smartphone to over-sized tablet.

According to the automaker, its Expedition Tremor model is the most off-road capable Expedition ever. It adds off-road equipment to take on more rugged adventures. Its 10.6-inch ground clearance is said to be better than any other vehicle in the large traditional utility class. And it rolls on 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires.

Tremor is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 High-Output engine that puts out up to 440 hp and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Re-tuned suspension and Electric Power-Assisted Steering systems. Raptor-inspired running boards and front skid plate. Embedded off-road auxiliary lights behind the grille. Underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case and fuel tank.

It was made for adventures that venture far off the beaten path, with a drive mode system that includes Rock Crawl Mode, and trail control system that includes Trail Turn Assist and Trail 1-Pedal.

“Tremor is the pinnacle of Expedition adventure-ready capability,” says Adrian Aguirre, chief engineer for Expedition. “Expedition Tremor delivers off-road capability and hardware shared with F-150 Tremor combined with Expedition big family and cargo-carrying versatility.”

Ordering for the all-new Expedition family opens on Oct. 24 and it will start arriving in dealer showrooms in spring 2025. More information is available on Ford.com .
