    20 Neat Things About Dogs

Get to know your best friend better.

I’ve always liked dogs, but in recent years my appreciation for them has grown. During the pandemic, people have been able to spend more time with their pets and their pets have proven their worth.

In addition to providing companionship, dogs have shown themselves to provide health benefits, including helping their humans lower their stress and blood pressure. I’ve put together a list of facts about dogs. Feel free to express yourself about your personal experiences.

1: Dogs have no sense of time.

That may explain why they are constantly late for meetings. That also may explain why my dog acts like he hasn’t seen me for years when I’ve been gone for 20 twenty minutes.

2: The only sweat glands a dog has are between its paw pads.

Maybe some odor eaters would be a good idea.

3: Living in the city seems to lengthen a dog’s lifespan.

City dogs live, on average, three years longer than country dogs. So, if you see a city dog balk at going to the country, you know why.

4: The number one health problem for dogs is obesity.

I’ve heard that dogs and owners tend to look alike, here’s another evidence of that.

    5: Like a human’s fingerprints, a dog’s nose print is unique.

So, if you want to verify which dog sniffed you, have the seat of your pants dusted for prints.

6: A greyhound can run over 35 mph.

That applies to both the dog and the bus.

7: 45% of dogs sleep in their owners’ bed.

The other 55% let their owners sleep with them in their beds.

8: Puppies and senior dogs dream more than adult dogs.

Ironically, they dream of being adult dogs.

9: Contrary to popular belief, dogs aren’t completely colorblind.

They can see blue and yellow. That might explain why so many dogs are fans of the LA Chargers.

10: There is a reason why dogs kick backwards after doing their business.

And it’s not to get rid of the evidence. It’s to mark their territory by spreading the scent from their scent glands in their feet. I would have thought the steaming pile of poop would have done that.

11: Some dogs’ sense of smell is so powerful they can sniff out medical problems.

But if your general practitioner refers you to a dog as a specialist, get another HMO.

12: Dogs have the intelligence of an average two-year-old child.

Unfortunately, your two-year-old child will actually lose ground during their teen years.

13: Dogs’ sense of hearing and smell is much keener than ours, but their sense of taste, not so much.

So why bother with gourmet dog food? It might also explain why dogs will sometimes eat poop.

14: Your dog might have a phenomenon called, “Frito feet.”

The combination of bacteria and sweat on your dog’s feet can create a smell something like popcorn or corn chips. Just when you think you couldn’t love your dog any more!

15: There seems to be a reason why your dog spins around before pooping.

Dogs seem to like poop either facing north or south. Apparently, you can use a dog if you’re lost and don’t have a compass.

16: Dogs that have been “fixed” live longer than those who are intact.

Maybe you can use that as a negotiating ploy when you’re taking them to the vet for the “procedure.”

17: A man’s chances of getting a date are enhanced if they have a dog with them.

If you’re really ugly, you might need two.

18: It’s estimated there are 600 million dogs in the world, and about 400 million of those are strays.

I only have two dogs. I now feel like I’m not doing enough to help with this situation.

19: Dogs lift their legs when they pee as a sign of dominance.

You might notice that small dogs try to stretch their legs up real high when peeing. So they go to great lengths to establish their credentials. Now, if you see a dog wearing stilts, you know why.

20: Dog owners live longer than people who don’t own dogs.

Hey guys, there are 400 million strays around worldwide, forget diet and exercise, get a dog if you want to live longer.

So, after reading this, you may want to pet your dog. Or go get one.
