Emily Picard was the first girl to cross who wasn’t from a Bend school Saturday at the Oxford Classic cross country race at Drake Park.

Tri-Valley Conference rivals Crook County and Culver were also at the meet. The Bulldogs chose to compete in the JV Blue competition, while both Crook County and Madras ran their varsity teams in the varsity portion of the meet and also ran some individuals in the JV meet.

Picard was the top finisher not from 5A Summit or Caldera high schools. The senior finished in 10th place with a time of 20:43.00. Caldera’s Maddie Carney was the girls individual winner with a time of 18:47.00, while Summit edged the Wolfpack for the team title with 28 points to 29 for Caldera. Lakeview finished a distant third with 128 points. They were followed by Mountain View, 131, Cleveland, 133, Crook County, 147, Henley, 160, and Madras, 182. Several other schools also competed in the girls varsity race, but did not field complete teams.

RedSky Waheneka was the first White Buffalo in, finishing in 27th place with a time of 18:15.40.

“I feel like our team’s season is going pretty good,” Waheneka said. “We’ve been going up in rank and we are also getting faster as a team, because last year we were not the fastest, but where we are right now, we are pretty fast and we’ve gone up two ranks in the league. We all need to just step up and focus. We all did pretty good today.”
