Armstrong football extended its perfect record to 6-0 on Oct. 4 with a 42-6 win at Hastings.

The win was framed with another monumental performance for Kevon Johnson, who scored four touchdowns and ran for 219 yards from 18 attempts. The senior ended Friday the number one running back in Minnesota on rushing yards (1180) and rushing touchdowns (19).

Hastings entered last week with 3-2 record, having lost its first two games before going on a positive run against Mahtomedi, Jefferson, and Cretin-Derham Hall. While Armstrong had every reason for confidence, this Hastings’ team had shown they had more to bring to the table than the 2-7 team from 2023.

Johnson had the only touchdown of the first quarter, finishing off an early drive with a 3-yard run before Luke Weisjahn scored the extra point to make it 7-0.

Quarterback Dawson Franke scored the next touchdown with an 18-yard carry. He also threw for 57 yards on Oct. 4. Johnson was back in the mix before halftime, scoring on a 14-yard carry to guide Armstrong to a 21-0 lead.

Johnson scored on a 37-yard carry to start the third quarter, with Jayden Vera Loza scoring the latest extra point to make it 28-0.

Avery Oseth got in on the fun, scoring a 69-yard pick six for Armstrong, before Hastings got on the board with a kick return touchdown for 80-yards. Johnson’s fourth touchdown ended the scoring Friday, running for 25-yards to help lock in the 42-6 scoreline.

Oseth led on total tackles on Friday with eight, five solo tackles. Both Cal Pilon and Jackson Wylie had six total tackles, while Fred Dassin had five. Ray Ayala, Everett Daly, and Dylan Gilles had four total tackles each.

Armstrong will return home the following week to face Mahtomedi in their final conference game on Thursday, Oct. 10.
