“It has not stopped being the 7th of October for them,” Amelia Duran said.

Amelia Duran, of Tyler, has visited Israel twice since the attacks were carried out last year by Hamas terrorists.

“You see posters of the missing and reminders that this is still very fresh and it’s still happening,” Duran said.

More than 1,100 people were killed that day. Today, more than one-hundred hostages including four Americans are still missing amid Israel and Hamas’s escalating war.

Saturday’s event was a day of remembrance happening among the High Holy Days in the Jewish faith and was an open people from all faiths

“This has been a very difficult year for our community but it’s shown us both the ugly side of people and it’s shown the beautiful side of people too,” Congregation Beth El Tyler Rabbi Neal Katz said.

Leaders from other churches and people of all faiths joined the small congregation in a prayer for peace.

“We’ve received an outpouring of love and tokens of appreciation,” Duran said.

They joined together to never forget what happened on October 7 and to spread a message that is universal.

“It’s about love and hope,” Duran said.

They hope that love will resonate halfway around the world.

“There are better days ahead and our eyes are on the prize of peace and hope and holiness.” Rabbi Katz said.
