With all the talk about Charlotte volleyball’s front line, it’s easy for senior outside hitter Keira Vasquez to get lost in the shuffle.

However, her defensive performance in the Gene Gorman Invitational volleyball tournament over the weekend earned her All-Tournament honors.

Vasquez helped the Tarpons win all their games in pool play. In the semifinal win over Riverview, she recorded 12 digs to lead the team as it avenged a loss in the previous week.

In the finals against Bradenton Christian, which ended in a heartbreaking three-set loss, Vasquez had 20 digs and two aces. She currently leads District 6A-12 in digs and is seventh in Class 6A.

When the Tarpons sought a spark, they turned to their seniors. They responded, especially Levi Wooten.

Lining up at running back, Wooten needed just 12 carries to amass 94 yards. He scored touchdowns on runs of 19 and 23 yards. In all, he had four rushes of 15 or more yards.

His efforts helped revive an offense that had gone dormant in two previous losses. With the help of fellow seniors Seven Bullock and Jaden Palmer, among others, Charlotte blasted Island Coast, 38-16 and improved to 4-2 on the season.
