Could the Miami Heat snag a notable veteran just weeks before the season opener?

PJ Tucker landed with the LA Clippers last season as part of a blockbuster deal that landed James Harden back in the Western Conference.

However, the journeyman never found himself in the rotation with his new team which led to a fractured relationship quickly.

"The Clippers and forward PJ Tucker have mutually agreed for the 13-year NBA veteran to be away from the team as the sides work toward a resolution for his future," ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Sunday.

With his release from the Clippers seeming likely, a reunion for the forward with a previous team could make sense for both sides.

Tucker has put together a reputation for himself as one of the grittiest defenders in the NBA. The 39-year-old has been a key veteran on countless championship contenders over the years.

That said, a reunion with the Heat could be in the cards.

The 6-foot-5 defender signed a one-year deal with the Heat in the 2021 offseason following an impressive title run with the Milwaukee Bucks. In his one season with the team, Tucker averaged 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 48.4% shooting from field goal range and 41.5% from three.

The Texas alum decided to leave Miami the following offseason to chase a championship with the Philadelphia 76ers. Three years later, Tucker finds himself back on the open market and a return to Miami could be beneficial for both parties.

Miami would be able to land a reliable veteran on a cheap contract who they can rely on during the postseason against some of the top wing duos in the NBA.

As for Tucker, he would get the chance to make one last strong push for a championship as his career winds down.
