Maria Kanellis Shares AEW Contract Update Amid Her Health Struggles

Maria Kanellis has unfortunately been dealing with multiple health issues in recent years and recently disclosed on social media that after a growth had been discovered, she required surgery. This is currently scheduled to take place on October 24, although worryingly, she previously revealed she is taking medication in an attempt to prevent her from suffering a heart attack during the operation.

And now, in an update for her Instagram followers, she has disclosed that her time with AEW may be ending, as her contract expires at the end of the month, and as of the time of the video, she hadn’t been told if she is being re-signed.

“It’s been a little bit since I’ve checked in, we’re getting close to my surgery, and we’re within 20 days of it at this point. This week, I have an ultrasound. I have genetic testing. And I also am meeting with my surgeon, to make a plan … My contract with AEW is coming up October 31st. I’ve reached out to them to find out whether or not they are going to be signing me, but I haven’t really heard anything yet.”

42-year-old Kanellis broke into the business two decades ago via WWE’s Diva Search, which also featured Christy Hemme and Michelle McCool. Subsequntly, she would turn a six-year WWE run into a full-time wrestling career by working for both ROH and TNA on more than one occasion. However, she and her husband, Mike Bennett, have been with AEW since October 2022, seemingly having both signed two-year deals, although his contract renewal status remains unknown at this time.
