Former President Donald Trump stayed on brand Monday night while speaking on the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks in Israel – by playing “Y.M.C.A.” by the village people.

One year ago, Hamas militants killed 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 250 others.

The former president held an event at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in South Florida, where he reiterated his non-falsifiable claim that “the Oct. 7 attack would never have happened if I was president.” As he spoke, U.S. and Israel flags stood in the background.

He concluded his remarks by saying what the Middle East will look like in a second Trump term. At one point, he seemed to suggest that those killed in the Oct. 7 attacks will be able to say, “We sacrificed our lives for something very special”:

We will have achieved the dream of some generations. We are going to make this. We are going to turn this. And you can never say a total positive because all of those people that have died, but we’re going to turn this into something where they can be proud of what’s happened. They can say, “We sacrificed our lives for something very special.”

There has to be unity. There has to be peace. There has to be strength. There’s so many qualities. We need every single quality. We’re gonna bring it all together, and we will have peace in the Middle East. We will have strength and resilience. And we will have a very powerful and strong Israel. And I will be with you all the way. Thank you very much. God bless you and the people of Israel. God bless America. Thank you very much.

Trump received a round of applause before the speakers began blaring “Y.M.C.A.”

In an interview in 2022, Trump explained why he plays the song at rallies and, apparently, commemorations of terrorist attacks that killed lots of people.

“You know what gets ‘em rocking? ‘Y.M.C.A.,’” he said at the time. The former president went on to refer to the song as “the gay national anthem.”
