Unexpected Confrontation Near Former Governor's Residence Leads to Multiple Arrests

Former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson were assaulted on Friday night while walking near their residence in New York City. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Second Avenue, close to East 96th Street, according to a statement from the NYPD. Authorities reported that a 20-year-old man and a 70-year-old man sustained facial and head injuries, respectively.

Two boys, aged 12 and 13, were arrested, along with a 34-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, both facing gang assault charges. The confrontation began when Paterson’s stepson, Anthony Sliwa, encountered three individuals climbing a building they suspected had been previously vandalized. The altercation later escalated when Paterson and his stepson encountered the group again, this time with more people involved.

Sliwa and Paterson were treated for their injuries and later released. Paterson expressed hope that those involved would learn from the experience, emphasizing that no robbery or other crimes were attempted.
