Wethink the Saints had the potential to beat the Chiefs. However, they spent more time beating themselves. And so the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated as they handed a lost to the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. The Saints got the ball first and were moving the ball well down the field. But the Chiefs defense got pressure on QB Derek Carr and forced him to throw the ball away. Except he didn’t throw it out of bounds and it was intercepted. Taking full advantage of the turnover, the Chiefs marched down the field using a nice mix of the run and pass. Kareem Hunt ran in the five-yard touchdown to get the Chiefs on the board first.

On their next possession, the Saints couldn’t get their run game going and had to punt. But their defense was able to hold the Chiefs’ offense in check and forced them to punt. In the second quarter the Saints got their passing game going and moved down the field. The drive was capped off by a beautiful deep pass from Carr to Rashid Shaheed for the 43-yard touchdown. After that scoring drive things broke down for the Saints. The receivers were dropping some catchable balls like when Mason Tipton let a deep pass from Carr go right through his hands. Carr also was off on a few of his passes overthrowing the intended receiver.

Yet the Saints’ defense was able to hold the Chief’s offense to three field goals in the second quarter. However, on one of them they were saved by a 10-yard offensive holding penalty. The Chiefs had to settle for the field goal after not converting the 3rd & 5 at the 8-yard line.

To start the second half Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missed a 51-yard field goal. The Saint’s still had no run game but were completing some passes. However, Chris Olave killed their momentum on 3rd & 2. He never got set before the ball was snapped incurring a five-yard penalty. Thereafter the Saint’s couldn’t get the first down and had to punt. Following that was the best play of the night when Mahomes threw a pass into the end zone that got tipped. Khalen Saunders caught the pass and rumbled down the field for 37 yards. Gotta love big guys running!

Derek Carr was injured in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game. The Chiefs won 13-26 but they are not as scary offensively as they have been. With them missing key players other teams need to take advantage but so far none have. So they remain undefeated.
