Photo Credit: Michael Heit, Mid-Hudson News</figcaption></figure>Section 9 football guru Rich Arnott checks in with his rankings after Week Four:CLASS AA/A<ol><li>MONROE-WOODBURY – The Crusaders held serve in a four-touchdown romp over Pine Bush in front of the locals. Right now, M-W looks like the team to beat in Class AA, although we still have plenty of season remaining. The Bushmen even the slate at 2-2, 1-1 league.</li><li>CORNWALL – A 17-0 lead at home over Middletown gradually slipped to 17-12 with the Middies driving late in the 4th quarter. This forced the defense to dig deep and finally hold off the Bears in the final seconds. Middletown is still good divisionally speaking at 1-0 with a very important upcoming AA affair at Faller with Newburgh.</li><li>NEWBURGH –NFA breaks the short losing skid with a walloping 54-0 win over Valley Central in Montgomery. Let’s see if this propels the Goldbacks as the bus points toward Middletown on Thursday. The Vikings have lost three straight after winning two games to begin the season for new coach Scott Rumsey.</li><li>MINISINK VALLEY – After briefly trailing early versus Goshen, MV applied the pressure as QB Rob Labarbera put on a clinic to produce 47 points before the night ended. The Warriors finally begin A-1 action as they host struggling Roosevelt at John Bell Field. Goshen visits Red Hook in search of a week five win.</li><li>WARWICK – The Wildcats took care of FDR on the road to keep the record unblemished at 5-0. All will agree on how good the offense has looked, but the defense will determine how far this team goes. The Presidents, with high-quality athletes like Hudson Stehle, actually had several drives going in the first half that ended in turnovers deep in Warwick territory.</li></ol>CLASS B/C/D<ol><li>PORT JERVIS – Port did not have to beat New Paltz 56-13 to convince the section (maybe the state?!) that they define the ‘juggernaut’ word. The Raiders have blown out all five opponents with allegedly their best Class B challenger in Marlboro awaiting this short week. With Section One Rye having moved up to Class A, a pundit may do what coaches forbid: look into the future! Let’s see – we have Bronxville … Glens Falls … even – Maine-Endwell?! Just musing …</li><li>MARLBORO – The Iron Dukes had a scoreless tie with heavy underdog Liberty at halftime. They managed to score two touchdowns to win the B-1 encounter. With Port Jervis scouting, maybe they mixed some things up? At any rate, the next three days leave little time to baton down the hatches. Meanwhile, the Red Hawks of Liberty host B-1 rival New Paltz in a rare Friday afternoon game.</li><li>HIGHLAND – A.J. Nugent has performed superbly for the rejuvenated 2024 Huskies, as they locked down Red Hook 51-0. We’ll find out if B-2 Fallsburg can play with enough guys suited up this week. As for Red Hook, the defense will have to watch out for Goshen QB Mark McKenna who puts up great numbers.</li><li>BEACON – The Bulldogs gave up an early touchdown and things looked promising for Saugerties on their ‘Mum Bowl’ game, but Beacon slowly turned the tide en route to the 21-14, B-1 victory. Mason Supple looks great on defense, which has not disappointed except against ‘you-know-who’ up above.</li><li>BURKE – Coach Aaron Hasbrouck saw his Class D Eagles knock off Class A Monticello in a thorough, all-around win. Chester has already clinched the Class C division, and they provide Burke’s project in a very interesting Saturday afternoon meeting in week five. Monticello will have a chance to get a third win in four weeks in a visit to Poughkeepsie to play Spackenkill. The Spartans have won low-scoring games so this could make for good watching.</li></ol>8-MAN<ol><li>ELDRED – WAIT! What?! Yes- we’re giving the Yellowjackets the top spot after knocking off defending champion Sullivan West by two scores in a game played at Chase Field in Port Jervis. This has to mark one of the greatest program wins in recent memory as coach Sean Mcaveney has gotten the generally low player-numbered unit to thrive. SW will have an opportunity to vent out frustrations against visiting Ticonderoga, which has been a great friend to many of our 8-man teams in 2024.</li><li>SULLIVAN WEST – After a while the sting will hurt less and less. The Bulldogs can look forward to finishing the next part of the schedule strong on the way to the playoffs. I wonder if they’re thinking about a postseason rematch?</li><li>PAWLING – The Tigers accepted the forfeit win over Livingston Manor/Roscoe but no coach wants to give up playing football during the season for even one week. Jason Kuhlmann will keep the troops at the ready and we’ll keep the team right here at #3 despite the bye week.</li><li>TRI-VALLEY – The Bears added another notch to the win column with the big 56-14 win over Ticonderoga. They’ve already dropped a big loss to Sullivan West, but still have a huge division one meeting with Eldred coming soon. On deck though, a trip over to Pawling will further test this T-V team in a quality non-league matchup.</li></ol></div></body>
